VR Shinecon Virtual Reality Goggles Review

VR Shinecon isn’t a brand many people are familiar with. They’re not as big as Sony or Oculus, but gamers who are familiar with their product line know they produce some high-quality virtual reality gear and accessories that are available at a more affordable price. So, if you’re on a tight budget, you’ll want to jump on their latest model of mobile VR goggles.

Virtual reality goggles have slowly begun to enter the mainstream market over the past few years. Cheaper, smaller goggles such as the Google Daydream VR headset are a popular option for on the go gamers, but they lack the type of built-in headphones that complete the virtual reality experience. The VR Shinecon headset is a more affordable option, and a much better deal if you want an all-in-one mobile virtual reality headset that you can take anywhere. These goggles come with built-in headphones and a remote control. This type of streamlined setup complete with intuitive controls is a great option if you’re looking for VR goggles that are versatile and compatible with your smartphone.

Overview and Features

In 2015 we saw the Oculus Rift headset go on sale for hundreds of dollars. Considered the best VR headset, to use the Oculus rift you need to own a PC running the latest hardware. But not every gamer has that type of cash. That’s where VR Shinecon comes in. We decided to take these popular VR goggles out for a test spin and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the graphics and audio.

The goggle’s stereo headphones are removable, so you can take them out and use your favorite headphones. The included headphones allow you to fully enjoy your VR experience, whether you’re playing a game or watching a movie.

The viewing experience is pretty impressive and easily outshines other models in this price range. The goggles offer a total three hundred and sixty-degree panorama, so you can look around, walk, and follow the movie’s or game’s scene, which makes it feel like you’ve been sucked into a new world.

These goggles are incredibly comfortable. The highly breathable, soft leather pads reduce the amount of pressure applied to the face. The highly adjustable t-shape strap also helps to relieve stress placed on the head and face.

Remote Control

The included Bluetooth remote control can be used as a Bluetooth selfie shutter, media controller, and gamepad. The remote can also control some other basic functions on your phone, allowing you to skip songs, or fast forward, pause, play, or rewind a movie.

Smartphone Compatibility

These versatile goggles are compatible with both Android smartphones and iPhones with display screens measuring in at over four and a half inches up to six inches.

Goggle Controls

Located on the bottom of the goggles you’ll find a button on the left that controls music or video playback, so you can press play or pause. You can also control the volume of the headphones or accept or reject any incoming calls.

On top of the goggles are two knobs. Both the left and right knobs control pupil distance, which is perfect for glasses wearers. The knob located in the middle is used to adjust focal narrowing and length. This adjustment can help prevent eye strain or fatigue.

A Cooler User Experience

Most goggles in this price range fail to address common comfort and cooling issues that many gamers have struggled with. This is an issue even with higher priced headsets. Fortunately, despite their low price, these goggles have a couple of nice cooling features in place that improves user comfort. The goggles feature a couple of vents, in addition to a front panel that’s removable, for improved air circulation and heat dissipation. This will keep the user cool and prevent the smartphone from running hot.

Weight

These goggles weigh in at just under one and a half pounds. The lightweight design also helps to improve user comfort and encourages longer gameplay.

Ease of Set Up

Setting up the goggles is an easy process. The well-written instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. It will go over how to adjust the object and pupil distance, and how to troubleshoot some common issues.

Customer Service

VR Shinecon’s customer service team is very helpful and quick to respond regarding any troubleshooting issues you may run into. They’re available via phone or email.

Adjustability

With comfortable, soft adjustable leather straps that open and close with a Velcro patch, these goggles can be easily adjusted for the perfect fit.

Gameplay

Visual adjustments and hardware aside, the biggest question is how do these goggles perform with virtual reality gameplay? These goggles track movements well. However, they don’t have any built-in sensors, relying solely on your smartphone’s sensors to provide the immersive experience.

Despite the manufacturer’s claim that the goggles provide an impressive three hundred and sixty-degree field of view, some gamers felt that the field of view was lacking. However, it’s more than suitable for someone who wants to play VR games and apps on a mobile headset that’s definitely more reliable than Google Cardboard. While many gamers argue that the gaming experience and graphics can’t compare to the mobile virtual reality goggles by Canbor, one of VR Shinecon’s top competitors, we found that these goggles offered more intuitive controls, which equals a more immersive experience, and better graphics.
